Safe and Secure Schools: An Interactive Workshop for Enhancing School Safety

Workshop Description

Providing safe and secure schools is a process that is ongoing and ever-changing, and new strategies and information must be provided to individuals charged with providing a safe learning environment.  Ensuring safe schools is a team effort that requires a cooperative effort from school administrators, to teachers, to students, and to parents.

This workshop will provide timely information, covering multiple facets of school safety in the classroom, the school office, and the entire campus. 

Intended Audience

Administrators, Teachers, Counselors, Maintenance Personnel, Social Workers, School Nurses, Safety Coordinators, School Resource Officers

Instructional Objectives will include:

  • Understand how to plan for safety and security at special events, including extracurricular activities, field trips, etc.
  • Analyze student threats of violence using the latest educational research
  • Understand how to respond appropriately to student threats of serious violence
  • Understand how to use tabletop exercises to train certificated and support staff to respond to emergency events
  • Understand best practices for visitor check-in procedures, emergency drills, helping substitute teachers with school safety, and other critical issues
  • Understand how to reduce and appropriately respond to bullying behaviors, including working with parents and victims
