Providing Safe Schools & Classroom Series (3 modules)

Module One - Providing Teachers Tools for Safe Classrooms ($99.95)

This first in a series of video training aids from Edu-Safe is designed for school administrators to use with teaching staff in establishing a thorough knowledge of basic classroom safety strategies. The video is divided into two parts, each approximately 22 minutes, which cover four sections of material.

Its suggested use is at the beginning of the school year, either through viewing by individual teachers on their classroom computer or in a group setting such as a faculty meeting. This video is also recommended for new teaching staff hired during the school year.

Part one discusses a teacher's legal and professional responsibility and covers such topics as scope of employment and where to obtain specific information concerning duties and responsibilities.

Also provided is information on how stress will impact a teacher's decision-making process when responding to an emergency. It outlines a number of preplanning steps that should be taken in order to facilitate a more rapid response when confronted with an escalating event or emergency situation.

Part two takes a closer look at escalating, aggressive and violent behaviors and some of the risk factor and response strategies that every teacher should know and use as appropriate.

This part concludes with suggestions and strategies that every teacher should know in an effort to calm and de-escalate both students and adults and bring them under control.

Module Two - School House Bullies ($99.95)

This is the second in a series of video training aids from Edu-Safe designed for school administrators and providers of staff development to use with support, as well as certificated staff, to provide information related to the prevention of bullying behaviors. The video is divided into three parts, each approximately 25 minutes in length.

While this training module is not meant to provide a specific bullying prevention program it is designed to provide a framework for systematically evaluating and ultimately addressing the problem of bullying as it exists in both public and private elementary, middle, and high schools. After viewing the DVD and discussing its content by using the questions provided within the Facilitator's Guide, staff will have sufficient information to begin the process of identifying problems and concerns of students, staff, and parents, as well as specific suggestions on how to work with all facets of the school community to effectively eliminate the identified issues.

Part One of the module provides information related to what school staff needs to know about bullying behaviors in general. This will include information such as definitions, components of a successful bully prevention program, statistical data, and the characteristics of both the bullies and victims.

Part Two of the module is subdivided into three sections: one for elementary staff, one for middle level staff, and one for high school staff members. Viewers may choose between the different grade level configurations and will then be provided information related to the unique characteristics of bullying for that particular age of student. Part Two will also include scenarios that demonstrate common bullying problems and the appropriate response strategies for each.

Part Three of the module will address what school staff can do to prevent bullying behaviors, including information related to specifically helping the bullies, the victims, the bystanders, and the parents.

Module Three - School House Bullies ($99.95)

Module Three of the Creating Safe Schools and Classroom Series provides administrators with strategies and techniques for safely conducting student searches, It is designed to minimize personal and professional liability, as well as parent complaints alleging that a student search was unwarranted or improperly conducted. The accompanying Facilitator's Guide includes check sheets to assist in determining when the threshold of reasonable suspicion is reached, reminders for how to properly and safely conduct the search, and tips for constructing a detailed report on the event.

The DVD can be viewed individually or in a group setting and is ideal as a refresher for annual staff development or for use with new administrators or for staff members who occasionally act in a temporary leadership position. Included in the DVD are elementary and secondary school vignettes illustrating the various strategies and techniques discussed in the program.
